Transfer stations are facilities where waste produced in areas further away from CITVRSUs is unloaded, with the aim of preparing it for transport in a large-capacity vehicle to a treatment, recovery or disposal site, in order to make the use of CITVRSUs economically viable for more distant municipalities.
Generally, for distances greater than 25 km, it is worthwhile to opt for transfer due to the high costs of transport in collection vehicles as well as their own wear and tear.
Transfer stations receive waste that complies with that received and deposited at ERSUC's CITVRSUs. In addition to RU (urban waste), transfer stations also receive bulky household items that are no longer in use (‘monos’), which are deposited in an area reserved for the selective collection of materials – Ecocentros
ERSUC's Transfer Stations are located in Ossela, Sever do Vouga, Estarreja, Góis, Pampilhosa da Serra, Figueira da Foz and Ansião.
