The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) takes place from November 22nd to 30th and, this year, focuses on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), under the motto "Turn on the value. Turn off the waste". The objective is to draw attention to the accelerated growth of electronic waste in the European Union, raising awareness among citizens, companies and organizations for more sustainable consumption and management practices for this equipment.

EWWR aims to mobilize all of Europe to reduce waste, promoting the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste. This year, the focus is on WEEE, such as cell phones, computers and other devices in our daily lives, whose correct management throughout the life cycle is fundamental to protecting the environment and public health.

In the European Union, around 14.4 million tons of this equipment are placed on the market each year, but only a fraction is collected and recycled. Electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream, increasing by around 2% per year in the EU.

Several municipalities and institutions are joining the initiative with equipment collection campaigns, repair workshops (“Repair Café”), school competitions, roundtables, and workshops on reuse, repair, and transformation of WEEE.

The 2025 edition is an opportunity to rethink technology consumption and adopt concrete solutions for the prevention of electronic waste.

WEEE can be delivered to EGF's Ecocenters, which currently has 95 facilities distributed throughout the country, facilitating the proper disposal of this equipment.
